Just hours before the official unveiling of Renault’s eagerly anticipated new electric city car, the new Twingo E-Tech, fresh images of the vehicle have leaked onto social media. These photos confirm the near-exact preservation of the adorable concept revealed two years ago, offering a modern homage to the infamous “frog-eyed” Twingo of the 1990s.
AmpR Platform and Expected Competitive Price
The new Twingo’s design maintains the spirit of the original model while adapting it to the electric era. The signature LED headlights give the car a cartoonish smile, while the small grille completes the mouth-like appearance. The vertical bumper slats on the front bumper enhance the impression of a flushed face.
Three vents, seemingly positioned where the original Twingo’s air intake was, maintain the classic silhouette. The function of these vents in an electric vehicle remains unknown.
The leaked images also offer the first glimpse into the vehicle’s cabin. Two large screens dominate the dashboard. Just below the screens are physical climate controls and a prominent hazard warning light button, a nod to the classic Twingo. While the interior is mostly black and likely dominated by plastic, the bright yellow instrument panel adds a fun and colorful touch.
The new Twingo will share the same AmpR Small platform as the Renault 4 and Renault 5. However, to keep costs low and differentiate itself from other models, it will use smaller and less advanced LFP (lithium iron phosphate) batteries.
While official pricing and availability details will be announced at the November 6th launch, the Twingo E-Tech is expected to be among the cheapest EVs in Europe, closely following rivals like the Dacia Spring and Leapmotor T03. Some industry expectations suggest a starting price below €20,000 excluding incentives.
The previously announced “Twingo R Pass” program offers a priority experience by allowing buyers to reserve and pick up their vehicles before anyone else.
